Monumental Madrid

Monumental Madrid

Bourbon Madrid on foot: Gran Vía, Cibeles, the Puerta de Alcalá and the Retiro park along the city's grand avenues.

2h 30min English and Spanish Puerta del Sol, next to the statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree

Monumental Madrid is the city of wide avenues and buildings built to impress, the face the Bourbons and the 19th and 20th centuries gave the capital as it modernised. Over roughly two and a half hours we follow the axis that runs from Gran Vía to the Prado boulevard, the Madrid of fountains, palaces and grand facades. We walk in small groups and without megaphones, so the guide is easy to hear and you can ask questions as we go.

It suits you if it's your first visit and you want to see the most photographed Madrid, the postcard one, with a guide who explains why each building looks the way it does. It also works for families, since the route mixes broad streets, gardens and fountains that give the walk some breathing room. And if history and architecture are your thing, you will see how the city went from town to modern capital in barely a century.

Along the way you will see Gran Vía, the Metrópolis building, the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Plaza de Cibeles, the Puerta de Alcalá, the Retiro park and the Prado boulevard, among other places. This is a free tour: you book at no cost and, at the end, you leave a voluntary contribution based on what it gave you (on average, between 15 and 20 euros per person). No ticket booth and no set price: you decide what the experience was worth.

A really big shout out to Pera who not only is an architect and a historian himself, but a proper actor. He took us through an incredibly informative tour and delivered some of the most dramatic stories with proper theater experience. If I can book other tours, I'll be sure to request him.

Truly enjoyed our time with Luke yesterday! We had a fantastic Free Walking Tour with him in Barcelona. He guided us through Passeig de Gràcia, showed us some of Gaudí’s most famous houses, and shared fascinating insights about the history and architecture behind each site. The tour also included the incredible Sagrada Família, and Luke's knowledge helped us appreciate its significance on a much deeper level. He was engaging, friendly, and extremely well-informed throughout the tour. He brought the history of Barcelona to life with interesting stories and details that we would have otherwise missed. Would definitely recommend Luke to anyone visiting Barcelona who wants an informative and enjoyable introduction to the city's landmarks and culture. Gracias!

We were in for two days visiting my brother who is currently studying here. We had a few hours spare so my brother found these walking tours. We didn't really know what to expect but it was brilliant. Our tour guide was Andreas for the Gaudi tour. He was genuinely nice, engaging and knowledgeable. We had a really good time and learnt so much. The tour did not feel as long as it did, the time flew by. 10/10.would recommend the tour with Andreas.

I absolutely love it when people are passionate, enthusiatic and knowledgable about what they do and this tour was no exception! Luke was lovely, genuine and answered all of our groups questions. I feel like I have gone away knowing alot more about Gaudi and the beautiful architectural history that has captured the curiousity and hearts of so many of those that visit Barcelona. I would highly recommend this tour to those visiting and send my thanks and gratitude for Luke for creating such a beautiful experience for our group. Another thing to note is Luke is also English, which is great for those wanting to learn English or have an experience with a clear English translation

Amazing Gaudi and modernism walking tour with guide Luke. Having lived in barcelona for 10 years his knowledge of the city was clear! He was super passionate and enthusiastic. Second time in barcelona and his tour is easily the best one I've done. Highly recommend! Thanks Luke!
